Level 1 Building and Construction
Subject Description

Level 1 Building and Construction is a subject for students who are interested in the skills and knowledge associated with a career in the construction trades. The course contains two construction projects: an outdoor team-built structure and a workshop-based furniture project. At year 11, the workshop project is restricted by cost and size as the focus is on learning the skills and knowledge required to become competent workshop users. This project can be student designed or teacher prescribed. Topics covered include:
- working drawing interpretation
- safe hand tool and power tool use (carpentry and engineering)
- material and hardware composition and selection
- knowledge of trades and career pathways
Currently this course lists 29 credits. Not all standards will be covered as each year standards offered may change depending on student preference and ability.
Recommended Prior Learning
Year 10 Materials Technology is recommended. Success in Year 9 Materials Technology and or DVC is an advantage also.
