SECONDARY TERTIARY PARTNERSHIP (STP)

SECONDARY TERTIARY PARTNERSHIP

This course is to support students enrolled in a Secondary Tertiary Partnership (STP) - a two day a week course with Ara Institute of Canterbury, Southern Institute of Technology, Vision College, or the National Trades Academy (NTA). It is a one-year programme combined with school; 2 days at school, one day Work Experience and 2 days at the tertiary provider.  All courses offer either Level 2 or Level 3 credits.

The in school component is based around three key themes: 

  1. The Global Workplace, cultural responsiveness, interpersonal skills and team work.
  2. Financial Literacy, tax, insurance, renting/flatting, banking, credit options and budgeting.
  3. Successful Employment, admin, interviews, conflict resolution and confidence.

STP students in 2025 will also be expected to do a day's work experience, each week, in a work placement linked to their vocational training.

Term 3
Successful Employment, admin, interviews, conflict resolution and confidence.

Goal setting, forward thinking and service.

Recommended Prior Learning

By consultation with Miss Cording. Students need a good attendance record, a willingness to participate and a clear career pathway.

Pathway

The Secondary Teritiary Partnership program is designed for students, in their final year at High School, who wish to explore a vocational pathway or trade through a tertiary level educational provider.
The STP program makes for an much smoother transition from High School and into a vocational pathway.
Anyone wishing to be in the STP program must meet with Miss Cording, Mrs Hall or Mr Grubb, so that they can ensure that this would be a suitable program for you, with regards to your future career pathway.
The STP course includes compulsory work experience. Students need to commit to this aspect of the program, in order to be a member of the STP class.
A Whānau Hui will also be organised mid Term 3

Career Pathways

Assessment Information

Students on the STP course gain the majority of their NCEA credits at the tertiary course provider.
Learning programs back here at Riccarton High focus on soft skills, life and employment skills and subject specialist skills that will enhance a student's graduate profile.

Students are also expected to complete a day's work experience, one day a week, in a workplace that relates to their vocational training.
