RHS Media and Advertising Division (M.A.D.)
Although next year timetables are yet to be finalised, course selection is now finished. Any changes to student courses will now take place in January.
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr P. Scott.
MAD creates media to promote, inform and celebrate our school. Student led, MAD uses digital technology to design and create video, posters, billboards, social media posts, school publications, articles and more for our school community. As a team, MAD provides an important service for our school. You do not need any design or production experience. Ideas and a willingness to learn and work in a team are valuable.
MAD offers assessments from Media Studies and individual assessment plans will be constructed for students at the start of the year. Assessment will seek to credit students for the authentic learning they do in aid of the MAD mission of 'promoting pride and positivity in Riccarton High School'.
This course is open to both Years 12 and 13. It may be offered to select Year 11 students after consultation with the MAD adult in charge, the student, their parents and their Kaitiaki.
Approximate Costs and Equipment/Stationery
It is very useful for students to have at least:
- Headphones that can be plugged into the school computers, i.e. wired.
- A 32GB USB3.0 drive. (Around $10)
It would be good if students had:
- The Adobe Creative Cloud suite on a Windows or Mac PC at home. (Annual subscription costs $45 when purchased through the school)
If students would like to invest in more specialist equipment it would be a good idea to talk to the teacher first and perhaps try some of the school owned equipment before making any purchases.
Pathway
Students will the learn the fundamentals of all the media forms in this course. These skills can be applied, used and refined in any other subject that creates media.
The skills are also useful for marketing or any mass communication students might do in the future. If for instance they needed to run the marketing for a small business or communicate information effectively with customers or stakeholders in a work environment.
