Level 3 Science and Sustainability
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Baars.
This is a course for students wanting to do a Level 3 science course for career or interest without specialising in one or more of biology, chemistry and physics. Students will explore different aspects of one issue during the year. Assessment will be largely internal, with one external assessment so students can pursue a course endorsement if they wish.
Note that one 4 credit Standard (B3.2) is also assessed in the 3BIO course, so students doing both of these courses need to be aware that they can only earn these credits once.
Subject Overview
Term 1
The Issue - identifying why the issue is an issue - this includes developing a science-based understanding of the issue.
Term 2
Sustainability - analysing the impact of world views, values and practices on sustainability - working out why the issue became an issue.
Term 3
Possible solutions - analysing a range of solutions and identifying the issues and implications involved.
Term 4
How do we know we are making an impact? Evaluating measures taken to improve the environment.
