Year 12 Music Performance and Technology

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms A. Plummer

This course is available to students that have not done Level 1 Music and are keen to develop their performance skills on their instrument/voice. Performing is the main component of this course but keen song writers, composers and music technology enthusiasts might also be interested. It is possible we may collaborate with the Year 10 elective "Let's create a show" or 'Songwriting". Credits could be available for performance/composition components, if the required level is met.

Subject Overview

Term 1
This is a performance based course. Students will have the opportunity to practise their instrument and work collaboratively with others on group performance repertoire.
There will be some form of public performance during this course.
Students keen on composition will be encouraged to spend time creating original work that can then be recorded and performed.

Term 2
We will refine composition work, and group and solo performances if applicable, aiming for a presentation of some sort in front of an audience.

Term 3
This course will run for 2 terms only.

Approximate Costs and Equipment/Stationery

It is very handy to have your own instrument so you can practise at home. You should also have a device such as a crome book or phone that you can record yourself on and a quality pair of headphones.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 10 music or a music elective such as song writing. Students will need to be able to play an instrument to a reasonable standard.

If you're keen to find out more about music history and theory as well as doing heaps of practical work, you should take Level 2 Music. If you didn't do L1 but wish you had, see Ms Plummer to see if you are at the right standard for L2.
