Year 12 Performance Dance

Subject Description

Do you love to perform? Train like a commercial artist, experience what it’s like to work in a creative industry. Develop your skills in jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop, commercial and lyrical/contemporary dance. Train your body and find that determination to succeed. Learn to market yourself, make a showreel and develop industry-standard audition techniques.


Areas covered on this programme include:

  • commercial style dance techniques

  • body conditioning/Pilates

  • anatomy and nutrition

  • performance/repertoire

  • audition skills

  • choreography

  • creative enterprise/ marketing 

This course will enable students to become well-rounded performers, building these qualities through movement and dance. This space is for students who wish to gain confidence and purpose behind their dance performances. Students will work towards final performances which will be showcased during occasions such as assemblies and the dance recital as well as building a show-reel and portfolio to use at auditions.





Subject Overview

Term 1
What does it take to nail an audition? We work on the skills that choreographers and directors want to see when you walk into that audition room.

Term 2
Lets show off! This term we focus on marketing ourselves. We will create a Show-reel of dance clips showing off your talents. These get viewed by casting directors or even course co-ordinators. New Zealand is a small place to lets learn how to get your name out there!

Recommended Prior Learning

- One specialist style of dance is preferred (for example, proficiency in hip hop)
