Subject Description

Winston Churchill said: "Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it." This course will introduce you to the study of History. This will be done by studying the past in two set topics. There will also be an opportunity to explore an area of interest to you after completion of assessment because there is no exam.
Topic | Explanation |
The fight for equality: The oppression of African Americans and the status of Māori in New Zealand. | The dramatic struggle for freedom and equality by people of colour in the United States will be explored. Alongside this, you will learn about the changing circumstances confronting Māori in their own land following European settlement. |
New Zealand in the Second World War | Our participation in the most devastating war in history will be examined. This will include the war at home and overseas. The experiences of women and Māori will also be investigated. |
