Level 2 Tourism Studies | Ahumahi tāpoi

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs C. Roberts-Smith.

YOUNG PEOPLE MUST BE ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS AS WE RETHINK AND RESTART TOURISM.

Young people must not only be beneficiaries of tourism’s restart, but they must also be active participants in it.

Re-imagine how Tourism will operate in the post-Covid world and be an integral part of reconnecting people again in the future!

Young people have always been an integral part of tourism. Countless destinations, in every global region, depend on them to support businesses and livelihoods, and the return of young travelers as the world opens again brings hope for many millions of people. At the same time, young people also make up a significant proportion of the tourism workforce. The tourism sector is one of the leading providers of youth empowerment, providing opportunities for everyone, regardless of their backgrounds or academic attainment.

Both domestically and internationally, the tourism industry will increasingly demand confident, skilled people with a passion for providing great services and experiences to visitors from all over the world. The qualifications gained from this course provide students with a specialist understanding of this diverse and exciting sector.

Throughout the year students will be exposed to a range of career pathways in the Tourism and Travel industries. This includes meeting several guest speakers who currently work and train people in the industry. There are also further opportunities for students to experience 'taster days' from some of the local Tourism and Travel providers such as The New Zealand School of Tourism (NZST), the International College of Tourism (ITC) and ARA.

All assessments are unit standards, and as such may be credited towards NCEA Level 2.

This course offers 16 credits and students are expected to complete 4 units of work and obtain between 14-16 credits.
