Recommended Prior LearningStudents will work in consultation with their teacher to devise a personalized project based learning programme which will compromise of up to a maximum total of 18 credits. Below are some examples of possible assessment combinations.

OPTION 1: Performance Course
This course is designed to hone your technical and performance skills. You can focus on one specific genre of dance (such as hip hop, jazz or ballet) or diversify your skill set across many.
Just Internal: 14 Credits
Internal and External: 18 Credits
OPTION 2: Choreography Course
This course is designed to hone your choreography skills and can be completed without performing in your works. These standards dive deep into why and how we create dance, utilizing a predominantly contemporary approach.

OPTION 3: Cultural Course
This course is designed to develop Pasifika or Maori Performing Arts within the classroom. These standards allow you to gain your level one qualification while taking an Aotearoa specific pathway through dance.

Term 1
Basic technique classes and large group work is completed in term 1 to create relationships and build technical foundations for more individualized work later in the year.
First internals completed.
Term 2
Small group and individual standards are completed. Students are encouraged to collaborate with their other subject areas (e.g use a music composition for dance choreography).
Second internal completed.
Term 3
Dance Recital is a big part of this term, usually the last internal students sit will be presented at the recital.
The external exam prelim is conducted for those sitting the exam.
Third internal completed.
Term 4
Wrapping back to the first term, we spend our class time working on technique and performance qualities.
Exam preparation and revision is part of this terms in class time however, not all of it.
Additional costs may apply to attend out of school performances.
Each year the senior dance classes will have the opportunity to dress up and attend a live performance.
