Level 1 English

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Miss T. Hawes

Our theme of ‘Rebels and Misfits’ challenges Level 1 students to question and evaluate the complexities of the world they need to navigate. They will do this through a range of different media including the written word, film, podcasts, and interactive digital technologies. They will work both collaboratively and individually to create deeper textual understandings, and learn to use specific language techniques effectively for their intended audiences and purposes. Student choice and voice are vital elements of this course’s important point of difference: the opportunity for students to create their own programme of 18 credits from the internally and externally assessed Achievement Standard credits offered. Being able to select the standards best suited to their individual interests, strengths and needs means it is possible for some students to choose entirely internally assessed standards while others may opt for one or two external assessments and fewer internal.
